ArcGIS Desktop for Students or personal machines

Before you start the procedure to install ArcGIS please email the service desk to request an authorization code. The contact details can be found at: Service Desk Contact Details

Service Desk Agents: To get a license number to provide to requester, go to W:\ITTS\Customer Service\Service Desk\ArcGIS licenses\ArcGISLicenses.xlsx

Input student/staff name/details into the spreadsheet next to the license code that you then provide to the user.

Install procedure:

1. Visit


2. Log in using your Existing Esri Global Account or Sign-up for a new Esri Global account.

3. Enter the authorization code and click Activate ArcGIS.

4. Select the Version ArcGIS 10.5.1

5. Install Prerequisites 1: If you have ArcGIS version 10.1 or later installed, you do not need to uninstall it before installing version 10.5.1; the ArcGIS setup package will detect and upgrade your ArcGIS for Desktop software.

If you have ArcGIS version 10.0 or earlier installed, please uninstall it using the Uninstall Utility (download below) before installing ArcGIS.

6. Install Prerequisites 2: ArcGIS Pro requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 and Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 or newer.

7.  Select ArcGIS for Desktop, Download and install.

8. Determine the location for the ArcGIS for Desktop software you wish to install.

9. Allow the files to extract then progress through the install wizard and agree to the license.

10.  Select "Complete" and continue with the install wizard.

This is a large program and will take time to fully install

11. After the files are installed, click Finished


The ArcGIS Authorization Wizard will open and prompt you to choose a product to authorize; select "Advanced ArcInfo (Single Use)" and click onto Authorize Now at the bottom.

13. Select "I have installed my Software and Need to Authorize it"
14. Select "Authorize now with Esri now using the internet"

15. Complete the authorization information

16. Enter your Authorization code that you were provided by scu. e.g. EVA123456789

17. Select the option "I have authorization number(s) to authorize one or more extensions"

18. Leave blank unless advised by your lecturer

19. Once the program has been authorized it is ready to be use.
